This car, number 12 (Full VIN: 964012), was originally ordered for the famous Porsche Museum in Japan where it spent the first several years of its life under the care of a fulltime preservation staff.

It was later sold to another Porsche collector in Japan who occasionally drove the car on street (with a special plate). Today, it is perfect condition and showing just 5357 original kms (approx 3321 miles).

The car is very fun to drive, but isn’t legal for road use in any country. The lightweights were only issued six digit VINs by Porsche, but you might qualify for special licensing under the special show and display act, but please do your own research.

Special Features:

-Rally Gearbox with manual Torque Bias Controls (front to rear and left to right)
-Dual Brake Master Cylinder with Bias Control
-Full Roll Cage
-Fire System
-Plexiglass Side Windows (sliding)
-Aluminum Doors and Trunk Lid
-Engine Cover is Fiber Reinforced Plastic

About the C4 Lightweight:

Built by the Porsche customer sports department in Weissach, run by Le Mans winner Juergen Barth, built for the kind of guy who would have driven an old Carrera RSR or 934 at club events; the Carrera 4 Lightweight is a very rare car.

Except for the lightened cooling fan, it is in effect the RS powerplant.  There is no muffler, to say nothing of a catalyst, though, so 300 bhp is probably a more accurate figure.

The transmission is the same as used in the old Paris-Dakar rally cars; with its extremely short ratios, it's good for only 130 mph. on the center console are two knurled aluminum knobs that control the torque split of the center and rear differentials, so the driver can set just the amount of classic over steer he wants.

The Lightweight gets most of the RS suspension pieces, and the wheels are 7 and 9x16 inch aluminum pieces. The steering is power assisted, as on the stock Carrera 4.

The braking system gets added attention; dual master cylinders with a balance bar permit fine-tuning of the brake bias.

Side windows are plexiglass panels with sliding vents. The street mirrors are replaced by the familiar racing items set into the corners of the quarter windows. The only additional clue on the car's exterior is the kill switch sprouting from the cowl.

Inside, the Carrera 4 lightweight is stripped of all upholstery and carpeting. There is a complete aluminum roll cage, a Halon fire system, differential controls, and a small three-spoke steering wheel. There is no cabin heat system.

The Lightweight weighs 2,425 lbs., which is 827 lbs. less than a U.S.-spec Carrera 4. Add to that a short gearbox, and you have a car that accelerates like it's been dropped off a cliff. Approxmately 0-60 in four seconds flat.

The civilian Carrera 4 is known for benign handling. The Lightweight, with its over-abundance of power lack of weight- and with the differentials dialed in- kicks its tail out with little provocation.

The front lid is identical to that of the RS, but the Lightweight gets aluminum doors and the fiberglass, fixed-waletail rear lid of the old 911 SC/RS.

It will be sold on a bill of sale only. There is no rust on this car.

Also, there are no oil leaks – the underside was coated at the factory with Cosmoline (a spray on rust proofing).
